Mixed Reaction as Serap Ranks Police Most Corrupt Institution

Diverse opinions have trailed the recent public survey of the Socio-economic Rights and Accountability  Project SERAP indicating the Nigerian police as the most corrupt institution.

SERAP last week made the release ‘entitled corruption perception survey’, available to newsmen where it  identified the Nigerian Police Force, Power, Judiciary, Health and Education sector as corrupt public institutions in Nigeria.

Olayanju Kolapo,Osunlana Olufunmi among other Nigerians in their chat with 4newsnaija expressed their opinion on the development.

In his own reaction, Olayanju Kolapo affirmed the credibility of SERAP as a non-governmental organization that doesn't receive anything from the government or anyone.

“SERAP has been consistent in revealing the schemishes in the operations of public institutions in Nigeria.
“Police in Nigeria is parading itself more intimidating to the public even than the criminals,”  Kolapo said.

Miss Olufunmi Osunlana expressed support for the serap report stressing that it shows the feelings and beliefs of Nigerians.
According to her, discontentment has been the reason for the unruly behavior of the Nigerian police.

Chief Adetoyese Olayanju disagree with the conclusion of the serap survey. He opined that the nearness of the police to the people was why people felt they are the most corrupt.

According to Akeem oluwole, he said,”settle yourself has become a popular slogan of the Nigerian police which means bribe your ways regardless of your offences”

Mr Muhammad kehinde gave the impression that as human being, police have their wrongdoings but according to him, Nigerian police is not the most corrupt institution.

Pa Michael oluwole in his own expression maintained that not only the Nigerian police and other listed institution were corrupt but entire Nigerians there by emphasizing on the need to embrace the anti-corruption crusade of president Muhammadu Buhari so as to revive the lost glory of Nigeria.

Earlier, Deputy Director of SERAP Kolawole Oluwadare, while speaking on the report, stated that in every encounter Nigerians have with policemen, there is 63 percent chance that bribe would be demanded.

He also said that out of 100 interactions of Nigerians with the Police, 54 percent paid bribe.
