CERTIFICATE OF RETURN: INEC REMOVES OKOROCHA NAME. INEC IS PLANNING A SPECIAL EVENT FOR ME -OKOROCHA SAYS

Following non-presentation of certificate of return to the governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has said it will not reward "bad behavior" by presenting certificate of return to anyone harassing their staff.

INEC’s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye, said  Today that the commission insists on its decision.

He added that the commission maintained the stand after confirming the report of the returning officer for Imo West senatorial district election that he declared Governor Okorocha as the winner “under duress”.

He stressed that, "we made it clear on why we didn't present any certificate of return to him (Okorocha)."

Although Last week Thursday when INEC presented certificate of return to those returned elected in the February 23 election and refused him his own certificate, Governor Okorocha criticized the commission for withholding his certificate of return saying his victory was not declared under duress.

The governor emphasized that the election was one of the best conducted in the state. He said INEC was planning a special event to present him with his certificate.
