2019 ELECTION: 20 SANs 400 WITNESSES BACK ATIKU AGAINST BUHARI'S VICTORY IN COURT.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic in the February 23, 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has on Monday assembled over 400 witnesses to testify at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, where they would challenge the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari's victory at the poll.

alhaji Abubakar and his party, PDP through the National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Mr Emmanuel Enoidem, address journalists on the premises of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, venue of the tribunal where they filed their petition on Monday.

Enoidem after a joint petition of the party and its presidential candidate was filed at the tribunal’s secretariat.

As of 7.40pm on Monday, the last set of lawyers representing petitioners was just leaving the secretariat.

Enoidem said, “the petitioners would be represented by over 20 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and More than 400 witnesses are going to testify in this petition.

“We asked that our candidate who won the election massively across the country be declared the winner of that election.

“In the alternative, we also asked that the results be set aside on the grounds of irregularities which were very apparent across the country”.

Sequel to the development
A legal practitioner in the state of osun Mr Muhideen Adeoye described the petition as a ceremonial prayer which may not likely see the light of the day.

According to him, the 14 days time bound provided by the electoral act of 2010 makes it hard for any election petition to prove it's claim beyond reasonable doubt.
He added “it will be difficult for four hundred witnesses to present their evidence within fourteen days hence, the chance of having the case is low”.
