INEC HAIL OSUN PEOPLE


The independent National Electoral Commission, inec, state of osun headquarters,has appreciated the people of the state for their usual peaceful conduct which led to success of the last Saturday house of assembly election in the state.

The administrative secretary of inec, state of osun, Mr Surajudeen Junaid gave the commendation while addressing journalist yesterday at the state inec headquarters, osogbo.

He stressed that with commitment of the commission, it achieved 97 percent success in the election where twenty five state constituency were completed and declared while a constituency (oriade) turned inconclusive as a result voting disruption in five polling units in the constituency.

While reacting to the reported case of voters’ apathy,he noted that the commission did all necessary sensitizations to motivate people to participate in the election adding that men are unpredictable in their decisions.

He however commended the complementary efforts of the media as well as the security agencies which he described as professional by all standard.

National outcry as cost of Bread doubles in Zimbabwe

The price of bread nearly doubled in Zimbabwe on Tuesday, another burden for citizens already struggling with a weakening currency and rising prices for basic goods. Bread now costs 3.50 RTGS dollars a loaf, up from 1.80 on Monday, according to prices displayed by most shops visited by Reuters in the capital, Harare. “Bread has now become a luxury. How many people can afford it at this rate?” said Sarah Chisvo, a mother of three who was picking up groceries in a supermarket in central Harare. “The government needs to do something before this gets out of hand.” Zimbabwe ditched its own currency for the U.S. dollar and other currencies in 2009, after hyperinflation reached 500 billion percent the previous year. In February, faced with acute shortages of U.S. dollars, Zimbabwe introduced a new currency, called the Real Time Gross Settlement dollar. The Students representative council and the judiciary arm of the Students Union Government, Federal Polytechnic Offa have decided to strike the sledge hammer of the Union on a senator alleged of defiance to the constituted authority of the SUG. Sequel to the tradition of students with unqualified O'level losing their admission, The students union government has agitated that they should be given other departments they qualify for instead of sending them home.
